Working directly with the head of floating foundations, the engineer will support the definition of technical solutions by management of contracts with external suppliers, performing sizing estimates, preparation of tenders and technology monitoring, among others. Working from Corporate engineering team, the engineer will be involved with ongoing tender processes at early concept stage, but also providing technical support to pioneering operational floating wind farms from Ocean Winds, supporting the knowledge sharing between OW projects. The Floating Foundations Engineer will also provide support to all interfacing technical packages (Wind Turbines, Transport and Installation, Electrical, O&M, etc.) and key external stakeholders such as the supply chain and regulatory bodies associated with the areas of responsibility.

This senior position will focus on the structural arrangements of different floating concepts taking into account weight and load minimization with industrialization in mind. Engagement is expected with floater designers and fabrication yards to optimize the designs for easiness of fabrication according to each project constrains.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Define, in collaboration with other Technical Areas, floating foundations in early phase projects: type of foundations to be considered, suitability assessment, supply chain assessment, etc;
  • Manage/support for the management of floating foundation structural design studies. This may cover all the design phases from preliminary conceptual design to detailed design;
  • Risk assessment for floating foundations: review of available data, identify main risks and mitigation measures, etc.
  • Prepare/manage design inputs required for foundation design studies. Manage design interfaces with other technical packages (WTG, Electrical, T&I, etc.)
  • Prepare required foundation inputs and documentation for tenders and bids, including risk assessment and risk mitigation measures, concept design description, etc;
  • Review structural arrangements and load assessments, considering minimization of total steel and fabrication cost.
  • Manage fabrication studies with local yards and contractors for project specific sites.
  • Manage the Fabrication RFP processes in collaboration with Procurement. Preparation of tender documents, technical evaluation of offers received, etc;
  • Participate to due diligence for M&A projects, providing additional technical support as required;
  • Support the Head of Floating for management of design, certification, fabrication, and commissioning of floating foundations and mooring related items in accordance with in-house engineering, Q&A, and HSSE procedures;

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of technical standards and industry practice across the different disciplines associated with offshore floating foundations is desirable, preferably within the field of offshore wind;
  • Specific knowledge about the structural design and fabrication processes is required;
  • Knowledge of project management processes and systems associated with the delivery of complex, multi-package construction projects is desirable;
  • An understanding of the interfaces and interdependencies between the project’s work packages is desirable;
  • Advanced MS Office package user;
  • Knowledge of MS Project is a plus;
  • Knowledge of Python and/or Matlab is desirable.
